Janelle reminded me a a story from our trip the I need to remember for always. Let me preface this by saying that our baby is a crappy roadtripper. He's good in the car for about 1 1/2 hours, then he melts. So, being brilliant parents and anticipating his every want and need, we decided it would be perfect if we started driving to St. George (about 5 hr drive for us- we're slow) 1 1/2 hours before his bedtime, fed him dinner in the car, played with his favorite toys, broke out the portble DVD player (bought just for this trip- spoiled little boy) for a little Horton, read a book, gave him a bottle, and then he'd be out and the rest of the drive would be baby free. The perfect plan.
So we grab some Taco Bell on the way out of town and I'm feeding Milo some tater tot things. He's munching them down like crazy (because we starved him- all part of the plan) and things are going well. Not too long after he starts gagging a little, then vomits all of his tots all over himself. We hadn't even gotten past SLC yet. So we pull over, change his clothes, clean him up, and we're back on the road. We play a little, then about 30 min later he gets a little whiney and I figure he's probably hungry (since he puked up his food and all), so I gave him a little snack and he's having a great time and we put on a movie for him. About 30 min after this, he starts looking a little queasy and I say to Will, "He's going to throw up again!" Before I can even grab anything Milo is projectile vomiting all over EVERYTHING. Himself, the carseat, the truck console, his toys, our luggage- everything within a 2 foot radius of his mouth. And this wasn't just the snack that came up- it was lunch from earlier in the day, curdled milk...real, pure, stinky vomit. Not the sweet baby kind.
We pull over at a truck stop and it takes us about 45 minutes to clean up everything. It was everywhere. Thank goodness the truck stop had cleaning supplies or we would have had to use our clothes and bottled water to clean it all up. Still, even with industrial strength paper towels and a whole bottle of Simple Green, we were smelling pukey the rest of the way.
We're back on the road and a little on edge. Now I'm thinking, is he sick? Does he have a stomach bug? Was it the tots? Is he going to be puking the entire trip and infect everyone? Awesome. Mio is a wreck now because he clearly doesn't feel good and nothing I brought to entertain him is doing the trick. It's WAY past his bedtime and is not even close to sleeping, he's cold because his carseat is soaked from cleaning the puke off, and he's used up about half of the clothes I packed for the weekend. Worst roadtrip ever. After crying for FOREVER I knew the only thing that would calm him down enough to get to sleep was a bottle. It had been an hour or so since the truck stop incident, so I thought maybe just two ounces of milk would help him calm down but not be too hard on his stomach. Sorry about it, he threw that up too.
Basically we were out of options (and clothes) and had to let the poor little guy cry himself into exhaustion. So sad.
Miraculously, the next day his was totally fine- not sick, grouchy, tired, pukey- totally happy and had the time of his life. Apparently he's a carsick kid- food, toys, books, and movies do not mix well together. Personally, I blame the tots. They started this.

Sorry!!! That sounds like it was HORRIBLE!!! It's crazy how many things can go through your mind at a time like that. The JOYS of Motherhood. :)
Glad to hear that he wasn't sick the rest of the time. Sounds like you guys had a great time.
Super fun! Colton did that the first time we drove to St. George too. I think he only puked once though. Now he travels like a champ!! Have you found out what you're having yet?
Ha Ha! Thanks for sharing. Aren't you glad that you didn't drive all the way to AZ? Poor Guy.
Throw up in the car is never ever fun. I'm glad he redeamed himself.
ziplocs. Gallon size. wish I had known this little trick when I was pregnant. Sure works wonders with kids who get car sick easily!
Oh my gosh that is the worst thing ever!!! You and Will are troopers because we would have turned around. Glad to hear he was better the next day though. Your poor new truck :(
Do not blame the tots...they are the best invention ever. Sorry you got puked on though, I could almost smell it through the computer. Yuck.
Yuck. Thanks for the details...again ;) Glad you made it, we sure had a ball!
That's the best toddler story I've heard in a long time!! Hey, it could be worse. He could have had the frickin' flu de porko!!
