Adjusting quickly...

Well, things have finally calmed down over the last few days and I'm able to sit down and get some blogging done! I never had a chance to write any delivery details- not that anyone wants anything real specific- but basically it went as smooth as can be. I was there all night for cervical ripening (it gets your body ready for labor if it's not doing it on its own yet), started Pitocin at 6:00, was 4 cm and got the epidural at 9:30, then booked it to 10cm by 11:00. I pushed for 10 minutes and then the little guy was here! It was all a little too easy. As warped as this sounds, I really loved being in labor and feeling the contractions. Maybe it's because I have helped so many patients through them but never really knew what it felt like, and it was amazing to know what my body was doing and what was happening. It hurt like crazy, but it all happened so fast and then the epidural was my best friend. One funny (or sad?) thing that happened was Will passed out during the epidural. I was sitting on the edge of the bed for it and he was in front of me holding my hand while the anesthesiologist was at my back, and he said when the needle was going in he just pictured the catheter going into my spine and it made him really dizzy. So he went and sat down, then a minute later went into the bathroom becasue he felt nauseous. He said then he woke up on the floor and couldn't remember where he was or what was happening. It was kind of funny. I've had one patient's husband get dizzy on me, but never had anyone pass out (though it happens a lot Will- don't feel bad), so it was funny Will was the first I'd seen.

Everything is going really well here at home. It's amazing how fast your whole life changes and revolves around someone else. It has been really fun to see Will take on the papa role- it took him about 2 minutes and then he was changing diapers faster then me and figuring out Milo's cries and snuggling him and everything. He's such a good dad already- I'm so excited to watch them grow together and be buddies and all. We had to go to the pediatrician to check Milo's bilirubin level when he was 3 days old and had to go to the lab to get his blood drawn. The lab was through the E.R. and there were so many sick people and we were really nervous about all the germs. Will was holding Milo and this old, old, old guy who probably had tuberculosis and pneumonia starts coming up to us to look at the baby. Will went right into protective papa bear mode and hid Milo close to his chest and looked like he was going to either attack the guy or run out the door if he got any closer. It was so funny- thanks for protecting our son from the TB, babe.

One more thing that I want to mention is how greatful I am for our wonderful ward. At first I thought people bringing over dinners was a nice perk but not something we really needed. Then the doorbell rang at 5:00 and I realized all I had had to eat that day was a yogurt and an apple and I didn't have the energy to make any food, nor did I really have any food in the house to make. The home delivery of homemade soup, rolls, cookies, fruit, everything- it was the best thing I could have asked for at that moment. So support your local new mommies with lots of food- it means more than anything! But it does make me feel a little guilty that other moms are making all these yummy dishes from scratch for their families and I usually pull out Pilsbury's and some frozen veggies. Looks like I'll have to up my game while I'm a stay at home mom for the next little while. My sister Kandice also came down from Idaho for a couple days to help me, which was a lifesaver! She was wonderful and had great advice (she's got three kids of her own- little Ava came with her and is such a cutie) and I wish she could've stayed longer!

So glad things are calming down a bit. It still is crazy how your life completely does a 180. I love watching Sean with Ryker too. He does everything and anything for him without a moments hesitation. The other day he got home from work, picked Ryker up and decided he felt warm so he immediately took his temperature. I love overhearing the little chats I hear him having with Ryker too! We all have such great hubbies!

Such GREAT pics!! I LOVE them so much. Wow, so much info...loved the passing out story again, too funny. I never did hear how he did w/all the blood and needles when Milo actually popped out. The protective papa bear story was great too.
